Google SERP bias? Google knols best

Frank noticed  that sites using Google Knol or Google pages were getting great positions in the Google SERPs. You keep track of the SERPs — the patron saint as it were — and as much as he gamed the system, He always trusted his moral compass and moved as close to it as his clients’ needs would allow.   He has seen great results for Google pages for some real estate stuff and Knol is just bursting out all over.

Google launches rival to Wikipedia

Google has launched its own version of communally constructed online encyclopedia Wikipedia, which consistently ranks among the most visited websites in the world.

The Internet search powerhouse went live late Wednesday with a free service dubbed “Knol,” to indicate a unit of knowledge.

While Wikipedia lets any visitors make changes to its online pages, trusting that people with accurate information will correct errors and misleading entries, Google lets folks author their own articles.

In an act guaranteed to pick a fight with two 800 pound gorillas, an attempt to register the mash-up name ‘GOOGLEBAY’ as a trade mark in Australia has failed. This follows a WIPO Panel decision that the same applicant transfer the domain name to Google Inc. read more

The service, called “Lively,” uses real-time virtual world characters known as avatars and three-dimensional graphics to congregate in virtual rooms.

The top level domain of your website can have an influence on your website rankings

Last week, many websites with a special top level domain were delisted from Google’s search results.

No more visitors from Google. What has happened?

Last week, many webmasters observed that all of their websites with an .info domain name disappeared from Google’s search results.

Some websites removed traffic drops from several hundreds of visitors per day to zero visitors per day. It seemed that all websites that used the .info top level domain had been removed from Google’s index.

A few days later, the websites with the .info domains reappeared in Google’s search results.

1 in 7 Google users choose UK-only search

About one in seven searches conducted on Google suggest its ‘UK only’ page results option, new figures reveal.
Robin Goads writes on his Hitwise blog that about 13.6 per cent of British searches on Google over four weeks during March represented UK pages only - about one in seven of all searches. read full story
